No need to apologize at all - I actually found your retelling of the event fascinating in a weird sort of way an I totally understand the need to get it off your chest so to speak... So my comment about being speechless was sincere - There really isn't much one can say. And the link to the picture was carefully chosen to say something about the need to play in the surf and living on the edge at the same time - if that makes any sense.

As for Williams, much has been written about the sad clown, Parkinsons, depression and lots of other more or less insightful stuff. My take is that I believe he made a deliberate decision - radical, yes, but deliberate. IF he felt (as I think he did), that his life's purpose of being able to entertain had come to an end, then he made a logical choice - a decidedly selfish choice, but...
