Let's look at their list of candidates for President since Reagan:
George H.W. Bush
Bob Dole
George W. Bush -Twice
John McCain
Mitt Romney
What are we looking at there, Pat?
We are not looking at solutions or offering the people of this country any sort of forward thinking are we?
We have a whole bunch of guys that all were pretty sad candidates and all of them just pointed backwards to Reagan as reason to elect them.
Reagan...that was elected over 3 decades ago now...he is the last president any Republican can point to.
Look at the simple facts, Pat, when George W. Bush took office the deficit was at $16.5 billion and when he left office it was at $1.4 TRILLION!
Obama took office with a $1.4 trillion dollar deficit staring him in the face. In a fairly bad economy he shrunk that in 4 years when by all accounts government spending had to increase as part of stimulus to our economy to $1.1 trillion.
No Republican will run pointing to what a great job Dubya did. He led this country into a crisis it will take us decades to recover from.
So, your guys have to go back more than 30 years to point to some reason to even think about putting them in office.
30 years, Pat...are you thinking about that? It was a different world then.
It would be like Democrats pointing back to Carter as their last elected official that did any good. It was a different time and funny enough your Republican crew is still stuck in some sort of time warp because they keep pointing back to Carter even today!
The Republicans are sunk, Pat, they are like an old man in his rocking chair with his blanket on his lap rambling on about what was going on in the world when he was a boy...they are stuck now 3 decades in the past and it just keeps getting further away. They check the paper every day looking for friends that have made the obituary column.
Do you understand how badly they need to reinvent themselves?
I'm not talking about becoming Republican-lite I'm talking about becoming a party that is presenting ideas for our future not pointing back 3 decades and saying "Oh, you know when Reagan was president and I still had all my teeth..."
