I was invited to a 2016 party, which for those that may not know what this is, it is a party where the host shows the film 2016: Obama's America and then encourages a discussion about it after the guests have seen it. These dvds were sent out for free I am told so people could host these parties. As a "small business owner" I was asked to attend. I love having a look at some of the insane stuff that goes on during an election process so even though I knew I did not belong there and really did not want to go I attended.
I could tell the entire insane story here, including the fact that there was a guy there that was at one point military intelligence...and did not clarify what exactly he was at this point but with a pleasant smile said it involves a lot of travel...that made some rather interesting comments but I just want to focus on this one item...
The immigration thing did come up, of course, at which point several of the people suddenly pointed out that "It is not Hispanics that are the problem because Hispanics are hard working family oriented people."
Lots of nodding in agreement.
I pressed "So, the immigration problem does not involve Hispanics?"
"No. Hispanics contribute a great deal to our community and represent the kind of hard working immigrants that America needs."
Now I was curious "So, who are the immigrants that are creating a problem here in the United States?"
Some silence before one brave soul stepped in "Muslims."
I could not stifle a bit of a chuckle.
"Our immigration problem revolves around Muslims?" I asked in obvious disbelief.
"Yes, there are parts of the country that are overrun with them like Michigan. Detroit is like a totally separate country now."
"You mean like a Muslim nation?" I tried not to sound like I thought this person was insane.
"Exactly and there are cells all over the country. It is a dangerous situation and a real threat. We don't want these people in our country. Obama is allowing this to happen. That is why this film is so important."
"Did we want to build a wall along our Mexican border to keep out Muslims?" I asked because I could not help it.
"Well, in part yes, because you just don't know who is getting across. The border wall was really not practical so that is not as important as recognizing the problem we have with a president that sympathizes with these Muslims and is allowing this to happen."
So, the people in the room did seem to have this theme of backing off of and praising Hispanics already and my guess is this is the way the Republicans will want to go.
I don't know if their wacky "We are being overrun by Muslims!" stuff will be a part of it as in a way I think they feel that is just something to be used against Obama...so sort of candidate specific.
Also Pat's 2016 candidate did come up though since this was mainly a push for Romney there was not a lot of talk dedicated to him.
