He had a felony rap sheet, so he could not legally own a gun, so your argument falls short on that point (Not that I'm a lifetime member of the ARA or anything).

The gun was a 22 rifle - that's a gun that my father taught me to shoot with when I was 10 years old. No Kick, Low load, very little damage from the round unless you hit something vital. Unfortunately, he did.

There is no information yet as to how he came to own the gun, whether or not he bought it legally, whether or not he bought it before his felony conviction, or whether or not he bought it at all, as opposed to stealing it or having it passed to him by another nut job.

My argument here isn't anti gun control, but that this case isn't one you're going to win many points on.
