If you're listening on decent equipment (or good headphones on an MP3 player), 128 will sound nearly terrible--cymbals will sound tinny, bass won't be as full, and top range vocals will seem more shrill. 192 isn't too bad, but I prefer 256 or higher. When I rip my own CDs I go at the full 320, mostly so I don't ever have to worry about a possible sacrifice of quality--although I know that I'm sacrificing storage.

I've done side-by-side tests of the same track ripped at different rates, and it's about 224 where I stopped really hearing a difference. There has been a lot of discussion on this on the Hydrogen Audio site, and it's worth a look through (if you have the time) to get some of the techie background.
