I count myself as a big Welles fan too, although a shamefully admit that I haven't seen but a fraction of his work. I think what draws me to him is the sense I get of him setting expectations so high for himself after Citizen Kane, and then falling so horribly short time after time, due mostly to what is perceived as his inability to work within the studio system.

His work in the last 15 years of his life is like someone else completely. A cameo in "The Muppet Movie", the wine commercials, and all the voiceover work, not to mention his inclusion in the Dean Martin roasts and all that kind of stuff.
