There have been many over the years, but some that stand out:
Best:
1. POCO, at Montreal Expo circa 1971: Just after Jim Messina left the group, and Paul Cotton took over on lead guitar; around the time of "From the Inside" album. Super show, and I slipped backstage..they were great to talk to. "Burned one" with Timothy B.Schmit (now of the Eagles), but he Bogarted the thing and hogged most of it.
2. CHAMBERS BROTHERS, at Place des Arts, Montreal, early 70's also: Yes, they did finish with about a 30 minute rendition of "Time has Come Today". Show got out around 2am...caught major shit from my parents.
3. JACKSON BROWNE...just about any time I have seen him...once in Houston 1984 or so..superb show. Opened with "Somebody's Baby" well before the song was well known. Amazing band.
4. PATTY SMYTH...also mid 80's, Houston...what a set of pipes, and what a rock steady band.
etc....etc..
WORST:
1. In first place, always in my mind...GRAND FUNK RAILROAD, Montreal '70. Loud, just loud. My ears rang for days. But was it music??
2. Probably even worse, it's a toss-up: RANDY Meissner and the Silverados..(he of Eagles..remember?). Couldn't sing a thing due to "laryngitis"; went on anyways, and kept trying to "ease" his vocal cords with whiskey. Narcissistic asshole.
