First concert: JB and the Playboys; local Canadian group, styled on the Beatles, and they were excellent. Played at a Curling Arena (most of you don't know what that is, but Curling (the sport) is popular over most of Canada; you can find an arena in even small towns, much like bowling alleys. Official Olympic event now.
BUT, First Major concert ie the real deal was THE BEATLES, Montreal Forum, Sept 1964. Yes, I know that is before you were born, most of y'all except maybe for David, but he would have been only a wee lad then. I remember distinctly that the girls' screams nearly drowned them out, and that there were about 10 bands that "opened" for them. Each group did about 2 or 3 songs. When the Beatles finally appeared, there were SO many flashbulbs going off, that it looked like a constant strobe. Every move they made elicited yet more screams from the teens, even a change of guitars (by George Harrison), or John Lennon's spastic imitations.etc...We were sitting quite a few rows back, but on the ground floor, my father plugging his ears with his fingers the whole time, and grimacing. My myopia had just started, and I left "me" specs at home, so the Beatles appeared as 4 blurs for most of the show.
Also saw Jimi Hendrix, Zep (twice) etc..but you said FIRST show, so there you are.
Best,
Gene
P.S. When/if I write my memoirs one day (I am now 49 and holding), I should title it " From the Beatles to Baerwald and Beyond", or something like that..
