Icon Re: Blindness

It's funny you bring this up, this word blindness. The reason I posted that photo and why I labelled it "Why We Fight" is that the photo seemed both ambiguous and iconic. It's like a Rorschach inkblot, a gauge of prejudice. And I dont mean racial bigotry--I mean the root of the word prejudice--to pre judge. Some would look at that photo and see simply a probable terrorist and a child. Others might see a probably innocent man and a child. Some might see an imprisoned freedom fighter, others might see an imprisoned criminal. Some might see something entirely else that hasnt occurred to me. But one thing's for sure--if that man and his boy weren't hating Americans before that day, they sure are now. One thing everybody shares is prejudice. Pre judgement. We all instinctually prejudge, we have to. We pre judge the length of a parking space, we estimate how long a job will take... We interpret people's faces for clues to their character... We like peanut butter, we hate tomatoes. We make a jillion prejudgements a day. If we didnt, we'd be paralyzed. Listen, if I'm buying a bunch of 2X4s to build a wall, I'll eyeball it. But when it comes time to cut, Im gonna measure. Carefully. It's just too expensive to make a mistake. And we havent seen any measurement in the last three years, just a lot of dreamy, ruthless radicals eyeballing huge dangerous expensive jobs, and fucking them up worse than I've ever seen.

You cant say we dont know this, Dale. We know this.
