Thank you Gene! You hit it right on the nail.

This is a situation where a LEGAL situation is getting mired down in the MORALS.  Folks keep bringing up the sanctity of marriage and I just don't see that as the issue.  It's about stuff like insurance, finances and property.

You can't legislate sanctity. If you could, the line could have been drawn far back from here.  We live in a world where you can cruize down to Vegas, get married by Elvis without ever leaving your car and hold the reception in a cemetary.  (thank you Margaret Cho for putting this gem in my head.)

Those that want to thump the bible at this issue, please remember who is noted in the bible as the one who gets to hand out the judgements on morality.  This one is not ours to call.

Someone said on a "random interview on the streets" thing I heard on the news this morning that it made them feel like their own marriage was undermined.  Personally, if the sanctity of one's own marriage is that easy to shake, one might consider counseling.

Just so y'all know, I'm a caucasian protestant who is the second husband of an Hispanic Catholic...who has a child from her first marriage.  So, we'll just have to see what judgement holds for me.

Oh, and I'm adopted, the illegitimate child of a homeless teenager...and we all know what the bible says about bastard children!
