Well Peter, O'Reilly was not the guy with the goat comment yesterday but I still believe he is fanning the flames with his comments.
When I said this would be a problem for Republicans in the future that's what I meant. You hit the nail on the head. When they look back on this, those who fought hard and said dumb stuff to prevent the rights of some people to marry will be seen as ignorant bigots. That would be the payback. Provided of course that society at some point advances to a level of sanity, enlightenment, and understanding that allows this.
