Has anybody else here heard the debut album "I Am Shelby Lynne"? I just picked it up the other day after hearing a few songs on a free demo EP, and I am incredibly impressed, despite the album's short length (ca. 36'). Certain songs on there remind me of the more recent Baerwald stuff, probably partially due to the huge presence of Bill Bottrell, who produced, co-wrote, sang backup, and played every instrument possible on the Lynne album. But she also just has a really nice ear for sophisticated songwriting in a sort of Motown-ish, country-influenced idiom. Good stuff, with lots of beautiful harmonies, heartfelt lyrics, swelling string sections (the Memphis Strings!) and other nice things. That's my suggestion of the week. What about everyone else?
