I think I started listening to Timbuk 3 and David and David at about the same time. Timbuk 3 slid from my radar not long after that. Luckily, a few years later I reacquainted myself with their music after a used CD buy from a local pawn shop. Since then, I tracked down all of their releases up to their final bow a couple of years ago (I think there are 6 or 7 total plus a live one and a greatest hits). Well...Pat Mac was one half of that group (the other half being his former wife Barbara K) and did most of the song writing and singing. After the T3 breakup, Pat put out 2 solo CDs. The first one is called Sleeps With His Guitar and is very acoustic. The second, which hasn't had a US release yet, has a more world-beat feel. The wit and and dare I say funk from the all the previous stuff is still there. Don't be scared away by the mega-80's hit Future's So Bright (I gotta wear shades) and try out Pat Mac and/or T3. Ebay has T3 CDs pretty regularly.
