I would not have been a fan of the Weimar leadership in Germany.  They were weak, they were dim-witted, blinkered, avatars of a dying aristocracy. Their troops slaughtered people like me—from Africa to Mexico, they left a trail of colonialist horror and blood wherever they went. I would have thrown my heart at the feet of Rosa Luxemburg, who would have lined all the Weimar aristocrats and their flunkies against the wall. But I would have supported the Weimar Republic in Germany in 1931. Why? Because they were not Nazis. Nazism and Fascism are cul de sacs, from whence the only exit is apocalypse. Democracy is boring, requires the will to hold not two, but thousands of oppositional ideas at once, the patience to find balance between all these blood-drenched contradictions. And at times like these, the will to stop listening to the lies, and to pick up the hammer and fight.
