Here's a problem, though, from the Left this time. This came in the e-mail today as a potential petition from Change.org:
"20 year old man Daunte Wright was murdered by Minneapolis-area police.
He was pulled over for having an air freshener obstructing the view of his rear view mirror.
The officers refused to tell him why he got pulled over, so he got back in his car to drive away, and they shot him. The car traveled several blocks before crashing into another vehicle. He died at the scene of the crash. His body was left on the street for hours by the police.
He was a father to a two year old.
Help get Daunte Wright and his family justice.
So looking that, focus in on the part I put in boldface type. It's an interesting question as to whether someone really ought to be pulled over for an "air freshener" and that he may not have been informed of that reason. I might guess it was much bulkier than a standard one or else they knew who he was and were aware of the warrant for his arrest. And that warrant is not even noted here. Then they go on to say "so he got back in his car to drive away." Anyone who has seen the video knows that is a a total lie. It was obvious that he struggled with them right after one of the officers said (out loud) that he had an outstanding warrant. Of course he should not have been shot at that moment or perhaps even ever, but it was 100% obvious that he was trying to flee at that time. Fleeing after the officers note a warrant for arrest is not a good decision, regardless of race.
What bugs me is that this petition is actually a carefully-crafted piece of propaganda. They know many people will not sign, but many will read. They are trying to subtly shift the narrative and in a way that is wholly inconsistent with what actually happened. I'm all for calling out the Right when they (as they often do) lie. But the other side is just as often manipulative in that way. Often obviously so.
