Hey Dan,
I live about 17 miles south of where George Floyd was killed. I rode my bike to the site of his murder the day after the first riots broke out (video below). It was a somber, peaceful daytime scene with people quietly moving about, taking it in. The area where the riots occurred was a few miles east of where George died. I was cautioned by the minister in the video below not to go there because of the violence but I went anyway. Again, I was met with peaceful people mostly in shock by what they were seeing. It's an area I frequent for stained glass supplies so I know it fairly well. It was so sad to see the destruction left behind. One thing many people fail to realize, tho, was that the first night of riots was sparked by a white nationalist/supremacist who busted out the windows to the AutoZone, inciting the violence that followed. He's been arrested. You'll see in the video photos of cops standing on top of the 3rd precinct, surveying the crowds below. Later that night, the 3rd precinct would be firebombed and destroyed. Again, another white supremacist was also involved in sparking that violence leading to more violence. Conservatives have done well to mislead people into thinking it was Antifa or whatever group of people they like to place the blame on, totally ignoring the fact that in many cases it was people more aligned with far-right extremist groups that caused much of the damage.
The senseless killing of Daunte Wright isn't helping any. It's hard not to think the cops were just looking for a reason to pull him over. Why the need to pull a weapon on him I don't understand. He wasn't a threat to anyone and they knew where he lived. Was it really necessary to escalate it to the degree they did? Let him run—he won't get far. Perhaps EEE can shed some light on this kind of thing. The entire metro area was under a curfew from 7:00 last night until 6:00 this morning.
Tensions are high and I worry what will happen if there's a hung jury in the Chauvin trial. I can't imagine him walking but the chances for at least one juror siding with him is a real possibility.
