Dislike Christgau's overly-mannered review of Boomtown. He winds all over the place and ends up saying very little about the music or lyrics themselves. I get that there was a little bit of LA sheen on the production (especially the drums), but he pretty much fails to address the lyrics in a meaningful way. Nor the melodies. He's writing a review about almost everything BUT the music, one reason why he's the kind of critic for whom I reserve the David Lee Roth treatment.
