I asked my stepson Jason who played on club teams through highschool and beyond to list out the sports in popularity. He listed them in the same order I did. He also said he thought soccer would never take off here because it is too slow paced. To me baseball is faster paced than soccer. The only sport I see dying is Baseball, Football and Basketball are thriving. Can't say about Hockey being I never watch the NHL. At one time I was a huge St. Louis Blues fan when they had Gary Unger and the Plager brothers. This was circa 1969-1976 when I lived in St. Louis. In Cedar Park which is north of Austin they opened a small Convention Center that now hosts the Austin Stars (farm club for Dallas). We went to like 3 games and it was great. Lots of support from local fans. Even went to a game where a fight broke out 2 seconds from the drop of the puck. The only way Soccer will really take off is for a new generation to usher it in and promote the hell out if. Even then I think it will be a hard sell unless they shorten the field :)
