Gene:

The USA PATRIOT ACT and the PATRIOT ACT II (Draft ONLY) both have provisions whereupon DNA samples are a condition of release from prision. It is supposed to be for terrorism suspects only, but they recently changed the definition of DOMESTIC TERRORISM that it now can be enforced for breaking ANY state or federal law!

As for Kevin G's question of what are we trying to protect, I would answer that by saying --- THE FOURTH AMENDMENT!!! Taking DNA samples is yet another step on that road of GUILTY until if and when INNOCENCE is proven.

I am sure at one time or another we all have been stopped on the side of the road for SEAT-BELT CHECKS and for INSPECTION STICKER checks, right?

Well, there are plans on the books to soon perform road-side DNA sample tests. Anyone that refuses to comply will be jailed --- and as soon as they are booked, they are going to take a DNA SAMPLE with or without your approval.

I have heard about this from someone I know who recently had his son become a state trooper in Connecticut. One of the more bizarre things they asked of their students in the police academy was if anyone was a PHOTOSHOP EXPERT. They wanted to know, so the person could work on "making the evidence more dependable," whatever that means.

USA PATRIOT ACT sections 302, 303, and 306 apply to the newly created National DNA Database.

Ain't AmeriKa a great place in which to live?!?!?!?
