Hey Reg ~
The only one I saw was Stranger Than Fiction and I think I liked it a bit more than you. I find Will Ferrell interesting as he stretches. More so than say a Jim Carey, why I can't say except that maybe Will seems more real and a lot less like he's "acting"For what its worth, let me throw out a couple of titles that I've seen recently, that I thought were well above average and left me feeling at the very least engaged. The most recent title was "Grave of the Fireflies", Japanese anime from 1988. For a long time this film was at or near the top of any anime list along with Hayao Miyazaki's "Princess Mononoke" ans "Spirited Away". I don't watch or even really enjoy most anime, but this film along with the other 2 I just mentioned are in a class by themselves. Grave tells the story of two young Japanese children trying to survive in the Japanese countryside during and after WW2. This is a somber film that deals in little moments (as Mr. Ebert points out) rather than big over reaching story. Visually arresting and for me, unforgettable.
Here is a trailer, thats more for the DVD than the film but everything else I found gave away too much.
A couple of other titles I'll throw out and let you choose to discover, if you haven't already..... Requiem for a Dream - 2000
Shadow of the Vampire - 2000
In the Realms of the Unreal (Documentary) - 2004
The Devil and Daniel Johnston (Documentary) - 2005
A Face in the Crowd - 1957
