Icon Songs about love that are not "Love Songs."

But...Oscar Wilde is dead.

My favorite spin on love songs have always been those written during the middle of a relationship rather than at the beginning.  So, I guess, they're songs about love that are not "Love Songs."

Personal Favorite Examples Are:  (in no particular stinking order!)

1. Colette: I seem to rarely discuss DB's music anymore but this song strikes me as a tune written about people that have been around each other a while. Seems like "In the Morning" is very closely related...always thought those two songs would segue well live.

2.  Etheline: John Hiatt.  "I'm sittin' on the toilet with my sunglasses on, wonderin' what you are up to."  I play this song around the house when freinds are over jamming and my wife hates it because it's so raw and brutal in it's lyrics.  Real Fine Love is another great Hiatt song about love.

3. Paul Simon: Darling Lorraine.  The most realistic song I've ever heard about a relationship.  My kids love it and they can sing every word. I love it when my son sings the line, "You say you're depressed but you're not, you just like to lie around in bed!"  Hearts and Bones is another great one.

4. Pete Townshend: Slit Skirts: I got "All the Best Cowboys" on vinyl back in high school and the lyrics made a huge impression on me...especially Slit Skirts.  From the same realistic place in Mr. Townshend's mind he wrote the lyrics "You don't know what it means to fall in love unless you're seventeen."  That's from David Gilmour's about face record.  Ain't that the truth.  I'd much prefer to never have that heart breaking, stomache aching, always wanna puke overwhelming hormonal "love" and I wouldn't wish it on anyone else.

5. the Rainmakers, No Romance: Another song that times in a "real" relationship" seems true.  However, it's not completely valid...but it ain't horribly unrealistic either.

OK...I must work,
