"My feeling is the vast majority could care less about what the ACLU says and they will have a far greater interest in the crime that was committed."

So what? That is what I am interested in, that is why I made the post. There were already plenty of folks talking about Bush and Co. I was trying to find a different angle on the subject.

Would you feel better if I just said "Bugger off you bastards! You'll never get George Alive!"

The whole crux of this matter seems to center around the source that Novak used for his story. I think it is reasonable to speculate on how hard the government is going to lean on a reporter to get his source. Just last year a woman was in jail in Texas for not revealing the source who told her details to a murder investigation. Her source could have very well been the murderer, or led to the murderer. When they put her in jail every news organization across the US comdemned the action, and the ACLU and similar organizations fought tooth and nail for her. I have not heard a thing about Novak or what kind of help he is getting, and I think it is a relevant question. Remember, the precedents that get set by cases like this quickly get turned around and used on someone YOU like. This is not interesting?
