I agree with Waits. It would be different if a corporation wasn't trying to ply a person's good memories and feelings by utilizing a well thought of song for THEIR selfish interests. Look at all
that has gone on in the past. Crosby, Stills and Nash selling a song used for commercials about washers and dryers. Does anyone really think that the manufacturers give a crap about the person other than it might make them feel good about THEIR product? I would suggest the book "You Can't Buy My Love" for those who have not seen how corporate marketing and advertising is changing all ofus and thinks that this is not a more serious issue. One issue that really concerns me is that then there are artists like the Rolling Stones and Eric Clapton who have sold their music to beer producers when both Eric Clapton and members of the Rolling Stones have had substance abuse problems. (Don't get me wrong, I love my beer and am not a puritan). I guess the only saving grace is that there is a subtle distinction between "art" and "ear candy" and that some artists know this and will go to far lengths to protect their "art." EEE
