Icon The power in the engine room of Midnight Oil!

I had the great pleasure of seeing the Oils on several occasions in Boston. It was such a powerful, explosive, and thoroughly mesmerizing experience. They raged with such intense passion, with Peter Garret glaring, and towering over everyone, with that stare, that total command of the stage, with the band roaring behind him, and Rob Hirst, so indomitable wailing on the skins with such controlled ferocity! I've seen footage of Rob playing with what I can only label a muscular athleticism of innovation. I know, I'm sounding hyperbolic! And his talents extended to co-writing some of the finest from the Oils catalog: Beds Are Burning, The Dead Heart, The Power and the Passion, Blue Sky Mine, etc. ! Raise a Victoria Bitter, and blast the Oils!

Many thanks, Big Al for sharing this, and Kathryn, a big hug for that Hirst and Greene disc you were so kind to send me all those years ago!

Lastly, thinking of Ed Lorah as he is the biggest Oils fan I've ever come across!
