This continues to happen. One of the reasons don't "tighten" our borders. It does'nt help when you have Grey Davis give illegls Drivers Licenses and insist they get a pass on Community College expense. I think we both know the economic impact of "not letting wetbacks across the border". It would be huge. I dont agree with this but I dont see it changing

You're right, of course, about it continuing to happen--I didn't mean to create the impression that it had somehow stopped. And I agree with you about not tightening our borders.

I think the logic behind giving illegals driver's licenses goes like this...You're never going to convince people that opening up the borders is a good thing, just because hysterical xenophobes like Pat Buchanan scare voters too effectively. It's easier to chip away at the issue by doing things like giving them driver's licenses and other benefits. They do pay taxes, after all. After these laws have been on the books for awhile, keeping the borders tightly shut stops making sense at all.
