Yes he can, but it's pretty pathetic for any (so-called) celebrity or artist to feel the need to do it to this extent. Perhaps now that he's back in the game, he can take an encore or two after each show and feel 'special' and 'validated' that way.
Maybe the internet message board has become so 'yesterday' when it comes to feeling important as a minor celebrity. This doesn't stem from any particular hurt or offence, it's more irritation and annoyance. Whilst he seems to think he's got free license to run his smart-talk as and when, I thought I'd hang around and see if he can really blow his stack.
>>the loss of a 'fan' like yourself, or a million of >>them, would be no loss to any artist
Correct. But since Frank Zappa said that your fans are often a reflection of yourself and if DB's PR machine thunders on the way it has been, I might not be the last to go this way. Re-read some of his exchanges with new posters regarding the Sheryl Crow VH1 episode...he's a real 'class act' when it comes down to it.
I know that Messers Zevon, Cockburn, Reed, Simon and Dylan don't know me - but when you put your money down for *their* latest offerings, they can play the part of 'celebrity', knock out a decent album and that's that. You can find an internet commune to 'appreciate' their work, and they leave well alone. For some reason they don't have the compulsion to appear as themselves and get into trite personal arguments.
