Dear Doc,
It's a part of the world I know well from the Pottsville days. The Centralia story has been raging for decades. It's an odd part of the world, eh? The descendents of German and Irish miners with the fire (no pun intended) bred out of them, the home of the Molly Maguires and Pottsville the birthplace of John O'Hara. There's a little-known piece of local lore about Pottsville having once been the main drug clearing route for that part of the East. Most of what's left now are big scars in the earth from abandoned anthracite mines, the ghosts of Main Streets and a few valuable fossils in St. Clair. And of course the Yuengling Brewery ( then next to the Catholic church)which in my youth had an ice cream store as a side business. I went to grade school with the smell of hops pervading the classrooms. And on a night like this, we'd drive old Chevies out past the mines and try to conjure the devil.
