Hi everyone,
I've been having a fairly difficult 2001 so far and haven't really had the time to check in here even though I've had some things to add. Last night I watched "Almost Famous" though, mainly because David had recommended it. I usually stay away from movies with a "rock 'n roll" setting because there just aren't many good ones. "This Is Spinal Tap" was a great rock 'n' roll movie...umm...after that...it's a pretty rough go I think...anyone else know of any great rock 'n' roll flicks? I thought "Almost Famous" was ok. I did like P.S. Hoffman as Lester Bangs though, that was great. You'd have to admit what he says in the film about rock 'n' roll is dead on too..."They won and they're going to kill it". Funny, I think that whole deal that went on here about Kravitz and Ms. Miller, and the sale or trade of a "bootleg" and the "legal implications" of such a deal is a pretty good example of the bizboys rearing their ugly heads to remind us "It's all about the benjamins!!!"
I remember when David wrote about this movie he talked about running into an old friend and this flood of memories about being seduced by this whore of a mistress called "Rock 'n' Roll". It was obvious to me there was a real love of the music there and that I'm not the only romantic posting on this board. Ha! But...David also touched on all the fucking nonsense involved with the "bizness" of rock 'n' roll as well and it is business first these days right? Just ask that little puke Lars! Anyway, I've got to run, I'm off to work but I would like to recommend to older films about music before I go. If you haven't seen these please check them out. "32 Short Films About Glenn Gould" & "Round Midnight". They also just came out on dvd.
