The situation is as follows:
Lars Ulrich, the drummer and business genius
behind (literally) Metallica, has started a record company in conjunction with Elektra Records and has as of last Saturday officially offered me a deal, mostly on the basis of "A Fine Mess", which as you know would not exist without you all.
We've been talking about this deal for about three months,
but I've been hesitant to discuss it until things got a little more concrete.
As far as picking the songs for that album, that is the purpose of the "Free the Fine Mess Twelve" poll that is
attached to this site. While obviously it's ultimately
going to be our final call on what goes on, I wanted the input of all of you as a focusing device, something to tell
me how well specific songs spoke to people outside of my immediate circle of friends and colleagues.
I'm sorry if I've been overly coy about this, it's simply that one really does not know if something is real until
it's on paper. (Which it still isn't)
Both Lars and his company and me and mine still have quite a few loose ends to tie up, so we've arrived at a start date of November 1 of this year, which would imply a spring 2001
release.
Please allow me this opportunity to thank again all of you,
for getting me off my behind and putting this collection together. I never would have done it without your interest and support, and I am eternally in your debt.
I owe a specific thank you to Dan, (whom I still have never met, or even spoken to) for putting this all together with such diligence, patience, and dignity, and would like to take this opportunity to ask him to make this
the "official" site.
