Icon Really miss philosophy/theory courses from the 80s

I don't know about others, but I miss my philosophy/theory-type courses from my academic period and wonder if they even exist in the same way they once did.

What I mean is, is it even possible for those seeking knowledge to even approach controversial topics in a setting that is supposed to promote enlightenment?

I mean, it seems that too many people need a membership to the "victim" cohort to salve all perceived encroachments of human behavior (now, don't get me wrong - I'm not talking about real harm or real trauma, but the horseshit claims of victimization and trauma).

The other day, I can't even recall the topic, but on social media, I was reading replies to the original post that wasn't even that controversial. Though I hate to use the pejorative "snowflakes", the replies were so disgusting in their infantile attempts to claim "trauma" and "harm" from the original poster it made me want to vomit and made me wonder, with those claiming "victimhood" from a nothing burger, what the hell would happen to this country if we really faced a nation-threatening action that required a heavy investment from the military, would there even be enough to save this nation?

Oh, I just recalled what it was - Majorie Taylor Greene was making a complaint about a colleague touching her shoulders in what I took the description to be, in a fatherly way.  Okay, I get that this occurrence was sexist, patriarchal, and understandably rude and all that, but the replies. They were just ridiculous and many exhibited such outrage it was as if a violent criminal attack was committed against her.  Even her response was ridiculous and especially because here was a woman bitching about some patriarchal best wishes when she was the one that displayed nude images of a man on the House floor.

But let's get on to a more dangerous topic to discuss along these lines: imagine if one were in a university philosophy course and brought up the subject of just how is Israel expected to defend itself to ensure the country survives against an enemy that behaves just like the terrorists in Somalia did back in the 90s - that this group, is resigned to eliminate ALL Jews in the world and then enters a country and indiscriminately starts slaughtering and kidnapping innocents and then flees to hide among other innocents while bragging it is just getting started and will continue on?

Then, there is the entire historical culture of the Middle East and the way those cultures deal with disputes and carry them forward.

As I have stated - I am maybe a bit more knowledgeable about the Middle East than say the general person, but I also feel I am ignorant of the Middle East when it comes to so many modern complexities, but at the same time, I do have a bit of understanding that those in other countries have very different ways of dealing with such conflicts and often, in a very harsh manner and manners that outsiders often do not fully understand or appreciate especially to outsiders.  Now, I'm not suggesting the killing of innocents is ever a good thing, but at the same time, I do realize that in Middle Eastern countries, it is not uncommon for those in disputes to see the offspring of people within feuds as potential future enemies (and I think part of this is how differing countries view time - for example, in the US, it is my opinion people in the US overwhelming focus more on the current generation and to our detriment, while other cultures possess a differing view of multiple generations - to illustrate, during the US time in Afghanistan, either a Taliban or al Queda foe commented that they knew it was not a matter "if" the Americans would leave that country, but instead, a matter of "when" the Americans would leave).

My point in all of this is: so many topics are so complex and nuanced that it seems to me, many of these topics have ended up being off the discussion table simply because they may make someone uncomfortable rather than make them a true victim, and that mere discussion of them has turned into a "trauma-based" process that ends up in the chilling of human thought before such thoughts and concepts even make it out the oral barn door.
