These shows, in ways, really are a treasure trove of sociological information and research when it comes to human behavior. They really are and often times they revealed ugly truths about humans.
For example, take bullying. Through these seasons, they oftentimes will bring back previous players that are very devious and with less than admirable qualities, and even when having knowledge of how disgusting these people are, people still flock to them. It is a reflection of Trumpism - a person perceived to be a leader can be with the most atrocious qualities of humanity and as long as he or she is on one's team, that is A-OK.
Then, the age thing. Because I'm from the US, we in the US know there is a focus on youth, beauty, and all things superficial in this country, and what these shows show is a blatant disregard for mature and the aged, both in wisdom and physicality and because our society is focused on youth and beauty, we have a terrible respect for the aged. We really do and it disgusts me how the aged and mature are treated in this country.
Then there is the failure to seek out context and more often by youth than any other demographic in this social media age.
What this social media youth world has done is completely ignore context or follow-up inquiry. Here's a story to share what I mean: a while back on Facebook I made light of a man's physicality that I grew up with and have known for over fifty years. THIS is how we behave and I am immensely fond of this man. As children, we were best friends. Two of his adult children attacked me and one even used the threat of physical violence, all without even inquiring intent. One of them even said people like me are the reason people are afflicted with "body dysmorphia." I apologized and told my friend in the future there would be no more humor for me (oddly, his wife replied, "fuck those kids.").
So, my point is two-fold - the failure to ask about context when it comes to younger generations and the demand that a 58-year-old adult capitulate to the sensibilities of an ignorant snowflake barely beyond the age of a baby (shit, they would have come by Mick's house and hung him by his shriveled and droopy ballsack for his behavior - thrown in just to see if he even reads this shit).
Anyway, I've always been a fan of the sorts of things that show us things that end up being quite illustrative of things we tend to overlook.
