Well, I think the giving up part comes from understanding that there are just so many guns out there that you can't get them back out of circulation. Obama admitted he had no intention and there was no plan to take guns away from anybody. We know people won't forfeit their guns for any reason. So, there is no way to reduce the number of guns already available to the public. The only thing that can get done is to stop selling certain types of guns, which would limit some of the killings. I mean we see these shootings where someone goes and purchases their guns not long before they go on their killing spree.

The problem you have on the Right, and with Christian gun owners in particular, is that they see the killings (if they believe they happened and are not false flags) as god's will. Just as they saw covid deaths as god's will. They do not believe in preventing these things, because to them, god has chosen to do them.

Republican politicians are well aware of this, they are well aware that they get campaign money from the gun lobby, so neither their voters, nor their donors want to prevent the slaughter. It actually works in their favor because every time there is a slaughter, which is pretty much daily, and it makes the news, gun owners and the gun lobby get excited and more guns and ammo are sold, and they get more excited to support politicians that support access to all kinds of weapons.

They see gun deaths the same way they see deaths from covid, or cancer, or car accidents...just something that god delivers to us because that is his will. You can't change gun laws without bipartisan support and the new Republican party believes there should never be bipartisan support for anything.

So, we are a country that slaughters school kids and never will do anything about it. USA, baby. USA!
