My biggest fear is that today's *new* normal becomes not only constant but gets worse. I mean, we are living in an age where fact has become all other things except fact and when a society can't agree on certain facts, then we are all in trouble. And to me, with the advent of AI, I think things have a great potential for getting much worse. To illustrate, documentaries and studies based within social and behavioral sciences are showing how disruptive social media has become and how profitable negative aspects of social media have become. For example, it has been shown that fear, anger, and hatred really push the algorithms of social media and so many with ulterior motives know this and take advantage of it. So imagine if AI gets up and running and keeps moving the hate machine forward. Science is even showing that oftentimes, people will use contrary facts to their opinions to even become more resolute in factually incorrect concepts and ideas. As for politics, whew, I have never seen a time where people fond of a political party absolve such horrible behavior just because a R is next to their name. Yes, some will try to link this to both R and D, but Republicans have taken this to new heights. For example, how can any pro-law enforcement person not criticize Donald Trump for Jan 6 when police officers were beaten with Thin Blue Line flags, US flags, and Trump banners and STILL support Donald Trump? But many do and just because of the letter R. And it goes on and on. (My thought of this goes, "if you claim to support LE and can't criticize Donald Trump for Jan 6, then you are not a supporter of LE or a patriot - you are a partisan - and there is a huge difference.).
