If the subject of Cognitive Bias intrigues you, here's a great place to start. For a deeper dive, check out Thinking Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman.

Every now and then I think of how recent our understandings of ourselves, our planet and its inhabitants, the cosmos, basically everything, is! And we've just begun!

Scientists think our species has probably been around for about 250,000 years. For 99% of that time, we lived, as Thomas Hobbes said "solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short" lives. The establishment of nations/governments served as a springboard to innumerable advances. Honestly, has there ever been a better time to be alive, to gain an understanding of the things that matter, to pursue one's passions? And yet so much of life is squandered by embracing bad, divisive, and ignorant ideas. I've come to appreciate our need for community to meet our social needs, and DBIS offers some of that, but we do have to get away from our screens, out of our own heads, and share our lives with other people. Just throwing it out to you all.
