Peter - those are excellent recommendations. I'm not sure where I picked up on Howard Tate - I think it was some 'favorite tracks no one else knows about' lists somewhere. He is so good. Clean and classic. Look up Joe Simon. His stuff is a little more charging/funky.
And I agree - really anything Paul Heaton related is good. Love the Housemartins. I know not the same - but thoughts on Joy Division?
