I also enjoyed listening to both of these guys and they always seemed to attempt to raise the bar in conversation and debate. My feeling is they would both probably be totally disgusted with where we have headed as a country and would place the blame for this on elected Republicans.
I think Buckley would likely have been a loud voice speaking out against Republicans, Trumpsim, and the total destruction of that party we have witnessed. Which is a tragedy for the Republican party, obviously, the country, and the world.
If you are saying you want to have a discussion that aims for the level of Hitchens and Buckley, sure we can shoot for that.
