There is a timelessness to classical music that is true. In Europe, which I guess the Shire is no longer a part of, it seems much more appreciated than here in the Not United States. I mean every time I am in some European city or town, the street musicians are spectacular. Particularly in Germany or Austria. Great classically trained musicians tearing it up right there on the street.
Here we basically have rap, autotune mania stuff, and some really bland country music. I mean I think that is what seems to primarily dominate the musical landscape. Not that I am paying much attention but when a car drives by you blaring music on a beautiful day...it will be one of those three things.
I do sometimes pull up next to people on a summer day at a traffic light and crank my speakers to 11 and then stare at the people in the car next to me as Liebestraum by Liszt blares out the windows at them. Mostly I think they think I am some sort of serial killer when I do that. So, I turn it down before the light changes and say "Love is in the air. Don't you feel it!" I usually scream that second part.
Gives them something to go home or wherever and tell people that happened to them today.
Julia will ask why I do things like that and I always say because people need stories to tell so I try to help them along a bit. Just doing my little part in the world. It's not a bad message and maybe it sinks in and they take it to heart.
Anyway, I figure introducing them to Liszt in that manner will make them remember the music.
