Icon Uncle Joe brings his Republican creds to the table...

We've never had an election like this and we've never really been in this position. Essentially, the Republican party has wiped itself out. It is a shocking and disgusting embarrassment and has completely betrayed this country. So we are essentially a single party country now there is just the Democrats. Seeing a major vacuum here though, the Democrats have a plan, which is to be both the Democrats and also the Republicans. To this end at the DNC they passed over a bunch of Democrats as speakers and instead featured a bunch of Republican speakers. Now, I know you are going to say "But Reg, the these Republicans wanted to speak out because Trump is so bad they had to and the Democrats were smart to let them."  but we do have a media that will give them all the time they want to do that any day of the week. In fact they have been begging Republicans to speak up for years about the abominations that are Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell. So, I mean, there really was no need to have Republican speakers at the Democratic convention.

If you thought that was just a ploy to lure Republican voters, nope, think again. It was the real deal. To prove it Biden's campaign has now announced they will fill several cabinet positions with, yes, Republicans. On its face this probably seems like a big gesture to show how a Biden administration will be bipartisan, how Joe intends to work with his brothers and sisters on the Republican side, and perhaps to signal to elected Republicans how there will be no punishment or retribution for all the lousy crap they pulled under Trump. Great, and probably some people will like this because they will say "See how everybody is working together now! How beautiful!"

Except, the real likelihood here is that Republicans are not going to look to work with Democrats nor help a Democratic administration to succeed. Biden is doing this mostly because this is where the Democrats are now, pulled way over to the right with no intention of moving back toward the left. Plus now this position they think will work to their advantage, they think it will draw Republican voters to their side permanently. This seems doubtful because the Christian right really are single issue voters and they are not going to embrace a conservative center right Democratic party.

This may work for this election but this is likely to be less about Biden doing a great job to win and more about Trump just being the worst guy to ever have held the office and running an absolutely awful campaign.
