Icon Isn't it something? The loss of great opportunities....

As I age, the more and more it is clear America is a country only interested in operating at one generation at a time and that is the present one.

This virus provides such opportunities to really shake things up, but I don't think it will really change much of anything.  The general American populace is just too ignorant and selfish to usher in these opportunities.  With that, such embrace of these opportunities must be forced upon them, however, we lack leaders with the courage to do so.

Another sad thing is that all around America there are great examples of what could be done.  For example, take my area.  We have two cities on the opposing sides of the Ilinois River.  One of them planned their economic future and expansion very well (not my city) while the other did not.  In the twenty-five plus years, I have lived in the city I do, the one across the river has become vastly different just because of better planning while our city was led by "leaders" that led by their own personalities and have blown it.  The contrast is amazing and sickening.

Also, check out the new issue of Wired.  It is all on climate change and innovation and shows what could be done if only we had the leaders to do so.
