Icon HBO Documentary, Meth Storm: Arkansas, USA

This is a very good documentary on Methamphetamine. It is troubling to watch and shows the fallacy of the fantasy of winning the drug war in the US.

One thing I found very interesting about the documentary was how through the documentary there are fascinating kernels that need extreme understanding to realize what a futile "war" this is in the current way it is being carried out.

For example, the influx of the meth talked about in this documentary comes from the Mexican drug cartels. So the cops decide the trickle up method here - they bust the users and small time dealers to go up the food chain. They finally get one of the Mexican low level suppliers and this guy goes silent because he knows what will happen if he talks - he, his friends, his family and other loved ones will be KILLED.

Another interesting part - that I first thought was a huge flaw of the documentary - was that through the entire documentary, until the very end, no one discussed the reasons people have an attraction for meth.

Then, this simple, meth addicted matriarch, that some may even call an enabler of others, made it clear - with her asthma, bad health and shitty life, she says when she is feeling bad, she gets some dope, does a bump and the feeling bad goes away......
