Can't say that I've watched much of any of the HOF shows, EEE. I'm kind of torn on the whole idea of
a HOF. For me, one of the great appeals of the music has been its rebelliousness, which doesn't seem
to square with those fancy schmancy, all-too-safe, mainstream affairs. I just wonder if those
audience members ever perspired the slightest at any shows they've attended. Still, having just
perused the list of past and present inductees, I have to agree that 95% of those honored really made
fine contributions to music, even if I didn't connect with a lot of them. I'll never get Kiss, Heart, Rush,
or even Van Halen. Perhaps it's because my favorites have been, and continue to be too far from the
tastes of most fans. Hell, I'm sure that's why. Now if there was a poorly lit, shabby, beer-soaked
establishment with grungy, graffiti-filled bathrooms, that saw fit to offer exhibits featuring Graham
Parker, The Jam, Paul Kelly, Weddings Parties Anything, Belle and Sebastian, The Hold Steady, Joe Ely,
Sugar, David Baerwald, The Bottle Rockets, The Go-Betweens, Bob Hillman, Midnight Oil, Stiff Little
Fingers, Paul Heaton, Garland Jeffreys, Junior Brown, and most recently, Frank Turner, I'd frequent the
place. Admission would be cheap, the lines wouldn't be long, but I gotta admit, I wouldn't have the
guts to do anything other than stand in the bathroom.Peter T.
