I'm with you Peter - can't see the point in wasting loads of money on something designed to impress other people... Having said that - I live in a small rural town where the opportunity to get dressed up in finery is remote. I have plenty of jewellery (inherited from my mother and my grandmothers), but no occasion at which to wear it! In a previous incarnation, I was a doctor's wife, so in order to keep up with the rest of the elite, I could get away with it, but I always felt pretentious or ostentatious (didn't seem to bother the rest of them though...).

I can think of so many other things I would rather spend my money on - music, books and cattle semen! $4m for a ring - that's obscene!
