It has been a really interesting last few books I've read as it pertains to southern writers and their styles. So far, William Gay's writing and use of metaphors is unlike any other writing I've read (though I have to say, I do need to examine more of the works of the classical southern writers). Right now I'm reading Ron Rash's The World Made Straight and while the book is pretty good and very enjoyable to read, his style and writing can't match that of Gay's. Gay's writing is on another level.
