I think the idea of music at a BBQ joint is fantastic. When I lived in Houston, Texas years ago, there was this little, but wonderful BBQ place at the corner of Kirby ave near the US 59. I think it was called Goode Co. (still there, last I checked). Every Friday night, there was this great Texas style fiddle and bluegrass band led by Pappy Self (I think he is a local legend of sorts). Now you could eat outside on a covered porch, or inside (where the AC was welcome in the overwhelming Houston heat and humidity). He played outside, and people just sat munching on ribs, drinking that watery Texas beer (a huge vat of ice-chilled longnecks serving as the centerpiece), and tapping their toes to the wonderful music.
To get the feel, listen to Jerry Jeff's "Viva la Terlingua"
live album, eat a BBQ sandwich, and drink an ice cold Shiner Bock or Lonestar ugh..ale, and you might get the feeling.
NOW, sing it, y'all:
"I'm goin' home with the Armadillo, good country music from Amarillo and Abilene, the friendliest people and the prettiest women you've ever seen". (JJ Walker)
Yep, God Bless Texas, and long live BBQ joints and music nights!
