Deep in this mess that should not receive a pass and I believe it would be impossible not to assign one's opinion to them without a point of view. One of these men (he is such a disgusting fellow I don't not desire to waste my time leaning over and picking up the book to find his name) is a PR man who orchestrated the Jessica Lynch myth and other propaganda items surrounding this story.

And Krakauer does describe the stories surrounding the US involvement in Iraq, Kuwait, Bin Laden and Afghanistan and our many missteps involving these and to do this harshly, probably does mean one to be critical.

But what I think Krakauer is trying to do is to show what an admirable person Tillman was and not only how much he himself admired him, but how the US Government tarnished his name and character and takes advantage of people like this all the time through nothing more than despicable politics.

As for people saying they grow to dislike Tillman after reading this book, I imagine that deals more with their own sour grapes after learning that Tillman wasn't the typical All-American mythical football star and military man. I think they become shocked to find out he was more than that and get disappointed that he isn't the cartoon they thought he was.
