I was thinking, WHAT the heck is a frangipani? 

 

………It has a beautiful flower, almost looks like it’s made of frosting. And even though, as you said, when not in bloom it’s just a stick in the mud (sand), AT LEAST you have it in amongst bromeliads (what the heck is a bromeliad?) which is just the ticket according to the linked article. The piece also suggests other plants you can use to camouflage it in the off season.

 

A little more digging, it turns out frangipani is called champa in India and Laos.  Nag Champa, which I knew is a formula of sandalwood and other stuff, has been our favorite incense for years.  Sandalwood …and frangipani?  Hmm, interesting.
