I had heard that the strategy was set before the findings were released and the decision was for the McCain campaign (and Palin specifically) to just keep saying "We're very happy with this result and that Governor Palin has been cleared of any wrong doing." The reason for this was supposedly that there is so little time left between now and the election that they could not afford to spend the time addressing the charges and getting dragged into a dispute about it. So, just have several people repeat this mantra until at least half the people in this country buy it. That seems to be exactly what they are doing and you gotta love how she calls it "Tasergate" to frame it the way they want it framed. They will focus (and I say they because I really think it will not include Palin herself, at least not very much, they don't want her in front of the media...unless it's FOX) on this one line in the report and repeat it often:"In spite of that, Governor Palin's firing of Commissioner Monegan was a proper and lawful exercise of her constitutional and statutory authority to hire and fire executive branch department heads."
What is so funny (or sad) is that this mirrors Bushco again in so many ways. The Bush Administration created a constitutional crisis with their political manipulation of the justice department, ending of course with the resignation of Alberto Gonzales. This crisis will not be resolved until the next administration takes office and we get a complete housecleaning. To me this remains a frightening aspect of a McCain-Palin administration as it does appear that they would continue to destroy the Justice Department, which is supposed to be the Holy of Holies in our system of government. It is also the key to doing and getting away with whatever a corrupt administration would want to accomplish. To put Palin in a position to further destroy our justice system seems completely insane and given the findings of this report and her (and the McCain camp) reaction to them...well...let's just say there is a level of insanity being displayed here that should remove McCain-Palin from consideration to serve. While there are loads of issues we can debate this one is clear cut and the destruction of our justice system is exactly how you destroy a country like ours (it's got to be an inside job, terrorists can't destroy the spirit of this country no matter what they blow up)...once those checks and balances are removed we're done. You can rebuild a building but this can't be overcome. Right now, I honestly see no way for McCain-Palin to win this election unless they do it dirty. If their voter suppression schemes work then anything goes....
