I thought that if McCain won, there would be a good chance that he would promote more professional and qualified people into key government posts. The way that Bush/Rove/Cheney rewarded loyal footsoldiers over competent footsoldiers might have been the single worst part of the last eight years.
In the beginning I thought he was making them on merit but it came down to loyalty which is admirable but in the long run bit him bad. Alberto Gonzalez is a prime example. Parading out Harriet Miers was also embarassing.
I think this was done for one reason and one reason only, to solidify the base. He has given the base the finger on just about every other big issue especially immigration so don't let the Palin thing throw you off track. Once in he will put in exactly who he want and I'm betting they will be qualified. McCain will be a more bi-partisan president than Obama ever would be and this has been proven time after time. How McCain rose from the ashes and ascended in Iowa has amazed me. He was given a .001 chance.
