Andrea,Coincidentally, my late father-in-law was a 30 year army veteran and served under Hackworth. He even was mentioned very favorably in "Hack's" book, "About Face". I know that he respected both men.I don't see much new here. I can only say that we must grant men who are being tortured enormous leeway in how we judge them, if in fact we have the right to judge them at all. McCain's refusal to take an early return to freedom, whether of his own volition, or due to the orders of a superior, doesn't make much difference really. He stayed, knowing the hell that that entailed. I wouldn't have been able to.I obviously won't be voting for McCain, but I have to acknowledge the man's extraordinary ability to endure physical and mental pain.Peter T.
