Not to mention all the current controversy about the Opening Ceremonies being digitally enhanced, 9-year-old lip-synchers, and the like.I'm with you on some of the human interest stories, but I'm still rooting for both hoops squads and Phelps. It's not so much a nationalist thing with me, but for cryin' out loud, Basketball (and baseball) were invented in the US. Playing in the NBA or the MLB is the mark of success for an international player, so we should be owning the world every time out.On a similar note, my kids asked me last night why the same handful of countries seem to dominate the medals. When I answered "money", they thought about it for a couple of minutes, but they got it and really started thinking about the differences between the developed world and the rest. Maybe a little altruism starting there....
